Fog continues to disrupt flights in southeast
Heavy fog was continuing to cause disruption at airports across the southeast today. At Heathrow alone, 39 flights were cancelled by 08:00hrs and at London City 46 were cancelled. Both airports also suffered long delays.
The Met Office said fog would continue to affect much of the UK until after 11:00hrs today. It has issued a severe weather warning from the south coast stretching to parts of North Yorkshire and into Wales. Luton and Newcastle airports said they were suffering some flight disruption this morning.
EasyJet has diverted flights from Southend to and from Belfast and Amsterdam to Stansted due to the fog. A coach service will bus passengers between the airports. It said passengers should present themselves for check-in at the usual time.
Passengers are being advised to contact other airlines for up-to-date information.
The problem is being compounded by a strike by French air traffic controllers, which has caused disruption to some services flying to and over France.
Flights to and from Gatwick are not being affected by the fog, said an airport spokeswoman.
