Footie fans are booking European sunshine holidays, says Lastminute.com
Lastminute.com is reporting a surge in bookings to main European resorts by footie fans seeking guaranteed sunshine.
As UK temperatures drop, it says sales of holidays in big European resorts have soared as fans look to watch the matches in local bars and top up their tans.
The top five hot spots to watch the games are resorts in Egypt, Greece, Spain, Turkey and Portugal, said the online travel company.
Travel director John Bevan said: “Not only is going to the likes of Rhodes, Kos, Majorca and the Algarve a great way of getting some early season sun, the prices at the moment represent fantastic value as a lot of people delay holiday booking until after England’s fate is decided in the World Cup.
“However those in the know are choosing to book now to travel within the next week or so meaning that they can take advantage of the great prices, get some sun, see the World Cup matches and not gamble on the unpredictable British weather. “
Lastminute.com is offering free airport lounge passes to every customer who books a package holiday online in June and July.
