Foreign Office updates advice
The Foreign Office is updating its 217 travel advice notices and plans to complete the process by the end of September.
The changes follow a thorough review of its travel advice undertaken by Foreign Secretary Jack Straw. The Government decided in future it would only advise against travel to destinations if there was a persistent danger or threat of terrorism.
The popular beach resort of Bali was one of the first destinations to benefit from the change when warnings against all but essential travel to Indonesia were lifted.
Substantial changes have also been made regarding advice to Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Yemen. Several other destinations have also received amended advice. A full list of the government’s travel advice is www.fco.gov.uk
