Foreign Office withdraws Zika warning for Jamaica
The Foreign Office has removed its warning about the Zika virus spreading to Jamaica days after it reported that one case had been confirmed on the island.
It did not say why it had withdrawn its advice to travellers about the mosquito-born virus in Jamaica.
Cases of the Zika virus have been confirmed in several countries in Latin America, the Caribbean and Cape Verde, including Barbados, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Mexico.
UK tour operators including Thomas Cook, Thomson and First Choice are giving pregnant women due to travel to any affected countries, including Jamaica, the option to switch to other destinations free of charge.
Although the virus generally only causes mild symptoms in adults, it has been linked to abnormalities in unborn children.
The World Health Organisation announced yesterday that it posed a global public health emergency.
