Foreigners believed involved in fatal California tour bus crash
Several foreign nationals are believed to be amongst those killed and injured in a tour bus crash in southern California.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the 13 who died and the 31 hurt when a bus operated by Los Angeles-based USA Holiday Bus was in collision with a truck close to Palm Springs.
However, reports suggest many were foreigners. The bus driver, who is thought to be the owner of the business, also died in the crash early on Sunday morning.
Investigators from the California Highway Patrol and the National Transportation Safety Board are trying to determine the cause of the crash, which was one of Southern California’s deadliest in recent years.
CHP Border Division Chief Jim Abele said the bus hit the truck in a ‘substantial impact.’
"Because of the impact where the bus entered the back of the big rig, the majority of the people who were killed were in the front section of the bus," Abele said, adding that most of the passengers were likely asleep at the time.
CHP officials said the bus had been inspected three times since 2014 and no mechanical faults were found.
