Former Las Vegas tourism official fined for airline gift card misuse
A former executive at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority will pay a fine of nearly $14,000 for state ethics violations.
The Nevada Commission on Ethics agreed the fine payable by Brig Lawson, the LVCVA’s former Director of Business Partnerships, for using more than $4,000 worth of Southwest Airline gift cards for personal use.
"The Commission hopes the severity of these sanctions will highlight the importance of the Ethics Law applicable to all public officers and employees and reflect the Commission’s commitment to the public to hold all public officers and employees accountable," the Commission said.
He is the last of several LVCVA officials to pay fines relating to misuse of the vouchers.
Other executives including former CEO Rossi Ralenkotter were fined and took plea deals in corresponding criminal cases.
Lawson is also facing a criminal charge of theft.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is a publicly-funded agency.
