Four new ships ordered by Carnival Corp

Global cruise company Carnival Corp has started the New Year with plans to expand further, after announcing a deal for four new ships.

The line has signed an agreement with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for the new ships across three of its brands.

Two new vessels will be added to Carnival’s Costa Asia brand with one each for P&O Cruises Australia and Princess Cruises.

All are expected to be delivered to the respective brands by 2020.

"These ships will be great additions to our fleet that support our goal to exceed guest expectations and create great vacation memories for each guest onboard our ships," said group CEO Arnold Donald.

The three ships headed for Costa Asia and P&O will accommodate 4,200 passengers, while the Princess ship will accommodate 3,560, Carnival said.

The new order comes just six months after the company announced four huge new 6,600-passenger ships powered by liquefied natural gas for its European based Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises brands.

Altogether Carnival now has 17 new ships on order and scheduled for delivery by 2020.
