French pigeon survives cross-Channel trip in Brits’ car
A French racing pigeon dubbed Pierre has survived a trip across the Channel imbedded in the grille of a British couple’s car.
George and Irene Cowie, from Warwickshire, unknowingly hit the bird during a weekend break in France and drove back home with it, ananova.com reported.
They did not discover the poor pigeon until two days after returning, and unable to free it, rushed to a local garage, where the owner’s wife was a former veterinary nurse.
She managed to get Pierre out and he is now being treated for a broken leg and an injured wing. The couple aim to reunite the bird with its owner, who has been traced to Calais.
Mr Cowie, 59, is reported as saying: “I thought I saw a feather sticking out of the grille, but when I bent down to pull it out, I discovered it was a bird.”
