Frontier Airlines contract employee stabbed to death after work dispute escalates

Monday, 04 May, 2018 0

A workplace dispute between airport employees working for Frontier Airlines has left one dead and another in police custody.

The incident took place in a break room on the tarmac at Philadelphia Airport involving three men.

It was seemingly sparked by the trivial matter of one man turning off a light while another wanted it to stay on.

A third worker tried to intervene and all three got physical.

That led to the stabbing death of one.

They are all Worldwide Flight Services employees and are contracted to clean planes for Frontier Airlines.

It happened away from any passenger operations and did not affect any flights at the airport.

"The weather’s up, people’s nerves may be a little high and they’re out there and they are cleaning planes and it’s hot," said Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker.

Police say a 35-year-old man is in custody after alleging stabbing his co-worker, 28.

The suspect then made a run for it but was apprehended a short time later by airport police.

The murder weapon is thought to be a box cutter picked up from the maintenance area.

"There was no disruption to airport flights at all. Everything went as to the protocols of the police department and the Aviation Division. Police, the Aviation Division, TSA, everybody worked together," Walker said.

"The Frontier Airlines family is saddened to learn about this event and our hearts go out to those touched by the tragedy. We have reached out to WFS to assist them in any way possible as they deal with this incident," the airline said in a statement.

The names of suspect or victim have not yet been released.
