Celebrations at the 2009 Awards
Africa investor selects Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) as a winner of its prestigious 2010 Africa investor Tourism Awards.
The Best Sustainable Tourism Investment Award was presented to FTTSA on 16 February 2010 in Harare, Zimbabwe at a high-profile ceremony attended by over 350 international tourism stakeholders.
FTTSA was previously shortlisted in the 2008 Africa investor Tourism Awards under the Best Initiative in Facilitating SMME Tourism Investment category.
The Awards were created to showcase Africa’s opportunities and achievements in the tourism sector to the rest of the world, collectively raise awareness about Africa as a tourism destination and reward those groups developing the African tourism industry as a vehicle to drive sustainable economic growth.
The shortlisted submissions and candidates in 12 award categories were judged on the basis of key financial indicators, the sustainability of projects and major value added contributions.
FTTSA Marketing Manager, Lolla Meyer, thanked everyone who has contributed to the growth and success of FTTSA over the years. “FTTSA’s success is largely due to support from within South Africa’s growing tourism industry and has generated interest to expand the scope of Fair Trade in Tourism beyond the borders of South Africa. We are proud to be recognised as leaders in communicating responsible tourism principles and practices across the African continent”.
