Garuda signs up to be punctual
Garuda Indonesia was asked to jump a number of hurdles before being accepted into the Sky Team alliance this week.
Conditions for acceptance included the size of its fleet, punctuality and passenger-to-airport access.
Agreements have been signed between Garuda and the operators of Jakarta and Denpasar, Bali, airports to improve facilities and services.
Renovations of Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport are due to begin next month.
SkyTeam managing director Marie-Joseph Malé said, “Garuda’s consideration to expand its routes to Frankfurt, Paris, London and Rome will make the airline an attractive option for business and leisure travelers.â€
Embarrassingly, Garuda suffered a series of flight cancellations earlier this week when it adopted new IT systems associated with its cut-over to Sky Team.
The delayed initial public offering (IPO) of shares in Garuda Indonesia is now expected to take place in February 2011.
