Gecko’s shows what’s hot in Asia
Gecko’s says that China is the hot ticket for travellers to Asia in the lead up to the 2008 Olympics, with Gecko’s Adventures putting on extra departures and new trips to bring budget-conscious travellers up close and personal with the ‘real’ China.
Gecko’s has added extra departures for most China tours in June and July, to accommodate travellers who want to avoid the peak Olympic period of August. The new 22-day Untamed China trip starts in Beijing and ends in Shanghai and visits China’s historical highlights, including the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Great Wall and the Terracotta Warriors in Xian.
This comprehensive itinerary also goes beyond the cities and the cultural icons, heading up to the Tibetan grasslands around the town of Xiahe, where travellers will meet monks and nomads and visit Buddhist monasteries such as Labrang, the most important outside Lhasa. There are opportunities for horse riding and hiking and the trip includes a visit to the pandas at Chengdu.
Untamed China costs from $1745 per person twin share, plus a local payment of $300, including an experienced local tour leader, accommodation, ground transportation, and sightseeing and entrance fees. There are departures from Beijing from June to September 2008.
With the launch of its range of 2008 brochures, Gecko’s is the first Australian adventure tour operator to offer a voluntary carbon offsetting option on the land component of all its tours, as well as the accompanying flights.
Gecko’s new 2008-09 Asia brochure features new and more active adventures throughout South East Asia, as well as China.
