Germanwings launches smarter way to fly
Low-cost airline Germanwings is expecting to attract nearly 80,000 more passengers after launching a simpler and cheaper booking service, called Smart Connect.
Until now, passengers wanting to fly with the carrier have had to book individual sectors via one of Germanwings’ hubs. For example, a single Stansted to Munich service via Cologne would mean booking two tickets, one for the Stansted-Cologne route and another for the Cologne-Munich.
Now, only one ticket needs to be booked for the whole journey, which the airline guarantees works out cheaper than buying two separate tickets.
In addition, luggage can now be checked through to final destination, rather than having to be picked up at the hub and re-checked in.
Smart Connect is currently only available on certain routes, with more being added in the coming months.
