Flights have resumed at Glasgow airport after a Jet2 aircraft made an emergency evacuation on the runway.

The captain of the flight leaving for Alicante at 7.15 this morning declared an emergency at about 7.40 after smoke was detected in the cabin.

Three minor injuries were reported at a local hospital and 15 minor injuries were treated at the airport after 189 passengers left the plane via the emergency chutes.

Glasgow airport said flights resumed at 10am but there would be some delays as a result.

All outgoing and incoming flights had to be suspended from 7.15 this morning as the aircraft was still on the runway.

Around 60 passengers had to leave a Thomas Cook plane by emergency chutes six days ago after the the flight landed from Dalaman in Turkey at Glasgow airport and the cabin began to fill with smoke.

A spokesman for Glasgow Airport said that it was very unusual to have two incidents like this in such a short space of time.

A statement from Jet2 said: "This morning’s flight LS177 from Glasgow Airport to Alicante made an emergency stop on the runway just prior to take-off.

"The aircraft was forced to curtail take-off due to smoke in the cabin."
