Gloria grows in China – and maybe beyond
China’s home-grown hotel brand Gloria Hotels & Resorts will open 12 new hotels across China this year and is eyeing new opportunities to grow in southeast Asia.
Three resorts will open in Hainan province later this year, two of them new-builds and one a rebranding of a hotspring resort on Haitang Bay.
Currently the group has three brands among its 31 hotels, deluxe Gloria Grand Hotels, four-star Gloria Plaza and Gloria Resorts.
Gloria will debut its limited service brand, E-Inn, this year and boutique brand, Merlin, in Shanghai in July.
Clarence Wong, vice president of sales and marketing, said opportunities to expand the brand were being assessed in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
The company is also studying a list of distressed hotel sales in Australia.
