Goa joins hands with Hawaii in sister state partnership
Hawaii has signed a first of its kind sister state partnership agreement with the Indian state of Goa.
Hawaii governor David Ige expects to see a boost in trade and tourism as well as key collaboration in a range of areas such as cultural ties, health and wellness and the culinary arts.
"The US-India partnership is an important one, and the Hawaii-Goa relationship will help strengthen this bond. We welcome people from Goa to invest in Hawaii’s economy, and share their traditional and cultural values with us," said Ige.
Dr. Raj Kumar, president of Indian-America Friendship Council in Hqawaii said: "This historic agreement represents a mutual commitment that will promote the economic, educational and cultural development of two great states. This affiliation will unite the people of Goa and Hawai’i."
Like Hawaii, Goa is a top lure for tourists, attraction more than seven million in 2017.
Thanks to the robust tourism sector, Goa’s per capita GDP is one of the highest in India.
