GoAir jet catches fire on take-off
A GoAir plane caught fire after suffering ‘foreign object damage’ during takeoff at Ahmedabad Airport.
The flight to Bengaluru was aborted and came to a halt safely.
Passengers were deplaned but the airline said no emergency evacuation was required.
The engine fire was quickly extinguished, it said.
"The right engine of a GoAir flight from Ahmedabad to Bengaluru is suspected to have suffered foreign object damage while on take-off roll. It resulted in a small fire which was doused," a statement said.
"The safety of our passengers and crew is of paramount importance and the airline sincerely regrets any inconvenience."
The foreign object is thought to be due to a bird strike.
The aircraft was towed off the runway and taken out of service for a full maintenance check and repair.
