Golf Australia calls on all golf courses to close
Golf Australia has urged all golf clubs across the country to close indefinitely.
It comes after Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced stricter social distancing measures.
Outdoor gatherings have been restricted to two persons or fewer.
Golf Australia chairman Andrew Newbold issued a call for all golf clubs to close immediately.
Earlier restrictions on social gatherings had already led to clubhouses closing.
"Golf Australia acknowledges that some state and territory governments will provide additional information and we will keep you up to date as and when additional state and territory-based announcements are made," Newbold said.
"While this is a difficult time for the golf industry and wider society, Golf Australia is committed to working with clubs and facilities across the states and territories to ensure that we return as a vibrant, strong industry."
Golf Australia is working with the Australian Sports Turf Management Association and regional golf associations to ensure course staff would still be able to work and continue managing courses despite the new restrictions.
