Goodbye paper tickets at MAS
KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Airlines is on track to roll out electronic ticketing (eTicketing) worldwide by October 28 with the completion of key system cutovers.
The airline said there would be compatibility with all 10 global distribution systems – Abacus, Amadeus, Worldspan, Topas, Axess, Galileo, Infini, Sabre, Travelsky, Apollo – enabling travel agents worldwide to issue etickets for MAS.
The cutover of all 16 Malaysian domestic stations and 27 of 40 international stations to the new SITA Departure Control System has also been completed.
MAS Senior General Manager of Transition Management, Dr Amin Khan, said the eTicketing to simplify passenger travel would enable customers to print their own tickets and the option to make changes to their travel itinerary. The airline will benefit from cost savings of RM20 (US$5.85) per ticket.
MAS has also completed 23 of the 36 interline e-ticketing agreements with carriers such as Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Cathay Pacific Airways and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. This allows a passenger to check-in all the way to the final destination with just one ticket even when flying with different airlines on another leg of he journey.
By November eticket passengers will have options to check in via self-service kiosks at the KL Kuala International Airport or the normal check-in counters.
Dr Amin added that these kiosks would be progressively introduced at airports in Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
By March next year customers will also able to check-in online through the MAS website. The new site will offer quicker response time, more user-friendly flight and fare search options, print out eTicket for local and international travel, make itinerary changes and indicate meal preferences.
MAS is investing RM200 million over the next three years in its Passenger Services System to simplify passenger travel.
