Google sells Frommer’s brand back to 83-year-old founder
Arthur Frommer, the 83-year-old founder of travel guidebook company Frommer’s, has bought back the rights to the brand from Google.
Frommer founded the company in 1957 and sold it to publisher Simon and Schuster in 1977.
Last August, Google purchased Frommer’s from fellow publishers Wiley and Sons.
Following the purchase, there were reports that Google planned to stop producing the printed guide and move it to online only. Google refused to comment on the reports.
Now it is back in hands of its founder, Arthur Frommer told news agency AP he wants to continue publishing the guides in both print and electronic form and operate the Frommer’s website.
Google said the travel content it had acquired from Frommer’s has been integrated into its various online services, such as Google Plus and Maps.
