Brits trapped in Libya are being flown home by government-organised charter planes.
A flight left Gatwick at lunchtime today and another will follow shortly, according to Foreign Office reports. It is thought around 300 British nationals are caught up in the conflict in Libya.
Political commentators say the uprisings in the country will be the bloodiest yet seen since the wave of pro-democracy protests spread through North Africa and the Middle East.
Libyan dictator Muammar Gadaffi has sworn he will fight his opponents until “the last drop of blood” has been shed.
Prime Minister David Cameron told a press conference held in Qatar this morning that the government was doing all that it could to help Brits stuck in the destination with planes and ferries being deployed to facilitate safe evacuation.
