Government touts battery, hydrogen-powered aviation revolution
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has outlined a future of battery and hydrogen-powered air travel.
A new group of aviation experts in industry and government called the new Zero Emission Flight (ZEF) Delivery Group will draw up a strategy to make zero emission flights a reality.
It was launched at the fifth meeting of the Jet Zero Council.
“We are determined to revolutionise flying and we want to see everyone have the opportunity to travel guilt-free,” Shapps said.
“We are determined to bring forward the flight technology of the future, and through our new Zero Emission Flight Delivery Group, we will help create thousands of jobs.”
The group will focus on the tech, infrastructure and regulation required.
ZEF is chaired by aviation specialist Rachel Gardner-Poole.
The government is bankrolling aerospace development to the tune of £685 million over the next three years.
It will also provide £125 million to support Innovate UK’s Future Flight Challenge.
