Governor-elect DeSantis picks former state senator for Visit Florida CEO role
Incoming Florida governor Ron DeSantis has named former state senator Dana Young as his pick to head up state tourism marketing agency Visit Florida.
Young will replace Ken Lawson as CEO of Visit Florida who moves to a new position in the DeSantis administration.
"Her leadership ability and experience make her an excellent candidate to lead Visit Florida in their mission to maximize the economic impact of travel and tourism to our state," Desantis said of Young.
Young must first be confirmed by the Visit Florida board before taking up the position.
"This is very exciting appointment and a very important one because tourism is the No. 1 economic driver in Florida," Young said, who was interviewed for the post a month ago.
Tampa Republican Young lost out to Democrat Janet Cruz in a re-election bid for a seat in the Senate by a thin margin that required a manual recount.
