Govt says " keep on buying that duty free"
Australian travellers have been encouraged to continue duty free shopping despite new airport security measures.
The security measures introduced in response to the terrorism alert in the UK will affect the ability of travellers to carry duty free purchases on flights to and from the UK and USA, but arrangements for other destinations remain as per usual.
“The new security measures are both necessary and appropriate, but I would encourage travellers to contact their airline or travel agent for the latest information on what they can carry on board. The vast majority of travellers are still able to buy duty free on their departure from Australia,” Federal Tourism Minister Fran Bailey said.
Ms Bailey said Australians departing on short holidays could take advantage of the ability to pre-order their duty free goods for pickup on their return to the country and that duty free shopping was often available on arrival in Australia.
