Granny’s holiday hotspots back in fashion
Overseas destinations that were holiday hotspots in previous generations are making a comeback.
Upmarket operator Inspired Luxury Escapes reports destinations such as Marrakesh and Malta that became trendy in the 1960s or 70s are becoming popular among a new, younger audience, with a 180% increase in year-on-year bookings for Madeira and bookings to Malta doubling in the past 12 months.
Marrakesh has seen a resurgence over the past three years and has overtaken Egypt as Inspired Luxury Escapes’ leading destination in North Africa.
General manager Paul Constable said: "When it comes to travelling, every generation likes to think they’ve broken new ground, but our figures show many people are following in their parents’ – and grandparents’ – footsteps and re-discovering some of the fabulous destinations previous generations flocked to."
