Greece’s PM declares state of emergency after deadly wildfires
Greek authorities are looking for dozens of people missing after the deadly wildfires in a seaside resort near Athens, which killed at least 77 people and injured hundreds more.
Tourists were among those hurt, including one British man who was treated for burns.
Irish man Brian O’Callaghan-Westropp, who was on his honeymoon, is still missing, while his bride Zoe Holohan was taken to hospital. The couple became separated as they were driven away from Mati where the blaze started.
Fire service spokeswoman Stavroula Malliri said that a further 164 adults and 23 children are still being treated in hospitals for injuries.
Greece’s prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has declared three days of mourning and a state of emergency in the region of Attica while the search for survivors and bodies continues.
Relatives of those reported missing have posted photographs of more than 30 people online in the hope of finding them.
Coastal patrol boats are combing the shoreline and rescue teams are searching houses and cars.
