The Green Travel Finder (www.GreenTravelFinder.com) globe directory announced passing the milestone of 8,000 lodging establishments. Travellers can search and book directly with hotels, resorts, guest houses (B&B), hostels and even British pubs who have participated in one of the dozens of local, regional and international “green certification programs” worldwide which follow sound standards for certification.
In order to enable mass engagement with sustainable travel and tourism the Green Hotel Finder directory was developed in conjunction with the Global Sustainability Index, which provides travellers and the travel industry one common trusted international program and brand to further the global understanding and demand for green and sustainable destinations, travel industry and their supply chain.
Sustainability Intelligence Limited (SI), which manages the Global Sustainability Index and the Green Travel Finder directory, makes the directory available to the major travel distribution networks, including airline reservation systems, major online travel portals, and corporate travel departments.
“The industry at large is keen to be more sustainable”, said Hugo Kimber MD of Sustainability Intelligence, “Whilst many travellers are keen to support green establishments, prior to Green Travel Finder, the only access point was through dedicated certification programmes with dozens to hundreds of properties each. The Green Hotel Finder addresses this fragmentation and by encouraging hoteliers to use the common disclosure method of the Global Sustainability Index, it will be possible to further understand the relative achievements of properties against a common set of criteria.”
“The willingness of the hotel and lodging industry, as well as their supply chain, to embrace sustainability will be accelerated by demonstrable consumer demand. We hope that the Green Hotel Finder data will help participating properties track and understand the commercial value of their efforts as well as the environmental and social benefits their increased sustainability will bring.”,continued Kimber.
The Global Sustainability Index is made available through co-branded programs , and is used by tour operators, destinations, hotels and event managers as part of their sustainability programmes. Co branded programes include the Green Globe Index (www.greenglobeindex.net) and Pacific Asia Travel Association “PATA Sustainability Index (http://pata.globalsustainabilityindex.com.)
