Gun shot heard on flight from Ibiza
A gun apparently accidentally discharge as it was handed over to the pilot for safekeeping.
It belonged to a police officer who placed the weapon inside a case prior to boarding the aircraft for a flight to Madrid-Barajas airport.
According to Spanish media reports, the bullet fired into the National Police agent’s luggage, so it didn’t cause any damage to the aircraft or passengers.
Local news site Ultimahora.es said two passengers witnessed the incident, which cause ‘unrest’ amongst other travellers.
After the gunshot, the officer is reported to have moved away from passengers to remove the gun and bullets from his bag.
Flight VY3420, which was due to leave Ibiza at 1.15pm local time on Saturday, was delayed for half an hour while engineers ensured no damage had been done to the~aircraft.
A spokesman for Vueling described the incident as ‘minor’, adding that the police officer followed the security procedures.
