HAL to further expand fleet to 14 ships
A new 2,100-passenger ship for Holland America Line has been ordered for delivery in autumn 2010 at a cost of 425 million euros.
The 86,000-ton vessel will be a sister ship to the line’s Eurodam, which is due to enter service in a year’s time.
Together with Eurodam, the as yet unnamed new ship will represent a 23% increase in HAL’s capacity.
The two ships will maintain HAL’s commitment to mid-sized vessels with larger cabins.
Of the 1,050 cabins, 85% will offer an ocean view and 67% will have private balconies. All cabins will offer Mariner’s Dream beds, flat panel TVs and DVD players.
UK & Ireland sales director Lynn Narraway said: “This is fantastic news for us in the UK. The addition of this new ship will bring the HAL fleet to 14 elegant ships, with greater scope for the UK to increase our market share and more booking opportunities on HAL.”
The ships are consistent with the line’s business strategy as the premium cruise leader and allow it to strengthen its position in the cruise industry and capitalize on the increasing affluence of the “baby boomer” generation, the company said.
