Hard Rock rocks in Penang
The Hard Rock Hotel continues to lead the way in Penang where it has been performing strongly this year with occupancy levels hitting 80% – well ahead of its rivals on the island, says general manager John Primmer.
Rates have also been holding up with demand being led by guests from domestic Malaysia (55%), followed by Singapore and Australia, both with around 10% of market share.
"Hard Rock is a strong brand, especially in Asia," said Primmer, "and it appeals to a wide variety of guests.
"We manage to be a party hotel and a family hotel at the same time, while also attracting strong corporate event business.”
Primmer says the 250-room Hard Rock Penang attracts couples who want to party – "old rockers who enjoy the live entertainment and the memorabilia", as well as families who appreciate the children’s activities."
Hard Rock has recently signed to open a 378-room hotel on Abu Dhabi’s seafront featuring a 37th floor bar and pool. It will open in 2014.
Hard Rock currently operates 16 hotels in the US and international locations Pattaya, Bali, Macau, Penang, Singapore, Punta Cana and Panama.
Its pipeline includes openings in Cancun and Vallarta, Mexico.
