Hawaii hotel guests evacuated after late night fire
Fifteen guests were evacuated from a hotel on Hawaii’s Big Island after a late night fire ripped through an adjacent building.
All occupants at the Kohala Village Inn in Hawi town got out safely but the adjoining Kohala Village Hub suffered about $1 million in damage.
Kohala Village Hub is a historic building housing part of the hotel, a restaurant and retail units.
The blaze took hold just before midnight and took about four hours to control by firefighters.
Flames were spotted coming out of the roof which partially collapsed.
The Kohala Village Inn is located about one hour from Kona Airport.
The cause is under investigation, fire officials said.
