Hawaii Tourism Authority renews partnership with the PGA Tour
The Hawaii Tourism Authority has again tapped the pro golf industry to help boost its tourism appeal.
The HTA announced a four-year extension of its official marketing partnership with The PGA TOUR that will promote the Aloha State’s golf and tourism through 2022.
The first PGA TOUR tournament was held in Hawaii way back in 1965, and the HTA-PGA TOUR collaboration began in 2001.
Last week’s Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua on Maui, was the official curtain raiser for the season, followed by the Sony Open this week.
The first PGA TOUR Champions tournament tees off with the Mistubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai on the Big Island from January 15-20.
As well as supporting all its tournaments in Hawaii, tour pros will be filmed participating in tourism activities away from the fairways.
"We thank PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan for his aloha and continued commitment to the Hawaiian Islands as a destination for hosting world-class golf, and we appreciate that our longstanding partnership will continue through 2022 with this new four-year agreement," said HTA chief executive George D. Szigeti.
"The PGA TOUR and Hawai’i are a perfect pairing for hosting a global sports showcase in combining a worldwide sports brand with an iconic tropical setting revered by travelers."
Meanwhile, the Hawaii Tourism Authority is also mulling a potential partnership with a very different sport.
The agency announced it plans to meet with UFC president Dana White about staging an event at the 50,000-seater Aloha Stadium.
