Hawaii vaccine passport program set to launch this summer

Saturday, 12 Apr, 2021 0

Hawaii Governor David Ige has officially given the go-ahead for a state-wide vaccine passport program.

It could be up and dunning by the summer for out of state travelers.

Hawaii officials are reportedly working with the developers of several apps including Clear, CommonPass and FirstVitals to verify pre-flight vaccination results and integrate them into the existing Hawaii Safe Travels program.

Travelers with checked vaccination results will be able to travel without the need of a Covid test.

Unvaccinated travelers will still be allowed entry with a negative Covid test taken within 72 hours from the final leg of departure to avoid quarantine.

"Businesses have lost a lot of money during this whole period here so there’s a lot to recoup but more importantly, we’re anxious to get this economy moving forward in a safe and healthy manner," Mufi Hannemann, CEO of the Hawaii Tourism and Lodging Association, told Hawaii News Now.

The vaccine passport program could begin as early as May specifically to verify people on inter-island travel.
