Head north for smiles, says Tripadvisor poll

Norfolk is the most boring, London the most standoffish, Blackpool the rowdiest and Cornwall the most family-friendly destination, according to a TripAdvisor poll of those choosing a “staycation” this summer.

The travel website has just conducted a poll of 500 British travellers to find out what they thought were the best and worst places to take a domestic holiday.

The clear overall winner was Cornwall which was also voted best for families and runner up in the food and value categories. The country’s capital was voted as having the most unfriendly locals (followed by the Welsh coast) but the best entertainment, accommodation and food.

The Norfolk Broads, conversely, was voted the most boring destination. At least that’s better than Blackpool’s result – it was given a thumbs down as the most rowdy place to go on holiday and a resounding 76% of those polled said it was the worst place in the country to take a holiday. It did, however, come third in terms of value, nightlife and family entertainment.

The Scottish Highlands and Islands got the thumbs up as the place with the friendliest locals and as the best destination for getting away from it all.
