Health probe delays cruise ship
A Royal Caribbean ship on a Mediterranean cruise was delayed at Barcelona for eight hours for health checks after a passenger was taken ill.
Officials boarded Legend of the Seas, which operates from Southampton, late yesterday. A spokeswoman described the passenger as suffering from a “type of pneumonia” and was responding well to antibiotics in a Barcelona hospital.
The ship departed early this morning after an eight hour delay and has now cancelled its port of call in Lisbon.
The spokeswoman said there was nothing to indicate the passenger has contracted the condition on board the ship.
“The water holding tanks were cleaned but there is no evidence to suggest the passenger contracted anything on board,” she said.
She stressed no other passenger has been affected.
