Health scare puts Jet2 plane in lockdown
A Jet2 flight full of passengers was effectively held in lockdown on arrival at Belfast International Airport.
Passengers on the flight just arrived from Alicante were unable to initially disembark due to a chicken pox health scare.
The plane was held on the tarmac until health officials arrived.
The health scare was sparked by a passenger showing apparent chickenpox symptoms.
“We can confirm that Port Health officials boarded the flight after reports of a customer showing possible chicken pox symptoms,” a Jet2 spokesperson said.
Passengers were allowed to deplane after a ‘short delay’ the airline said.
A passenger said the delay was around one hour.
The Public Health Agency was ‘made aware of an individual with possible symptoms of chicken pox.’
The fears turned out to be unfounded.
“Following a risk assessment, no further actions were required,” a PHA spokesperson said.
