Heated jacket sparks security alert

A woman wearing a specially-heated jacket sparked a major security concern yesterday when security guards became suspicious about the wires running through her clothing. According to the online news provider Ananova, French officials told United States authorities about the discovery, but only after the flight had left Charles de Gaulle airport for Cincinnati. Then, the website reports, the decision was taken to escort the flights through US airspace in case the woman had an accomplice on board the flight. Accordingly, two fighter jets accompanied Delta flight 043 into the Ohio airport. Ananova quotes a spokeswoman from the Transportation Security Administration, who said there had been “specific intelligence” relating to the flight, and that all 181 passengers and 12 crew were re-screened after the flight touched down. The woman was allowed to board a later flight after it was established that she clearly posed no threat.
