Heathrow taxi scam revealed
Foreign students are reportedly being targeted in a taxi scam at Heathrow airport, and being charged more than £1,500 for 100-mile journeys. According to The Independent newspaper, police say Japanese tourists are the main targets, with one claiming to have paid £1,650 for a 68-mile trip from Heathrow to Chelmsford. Many claim to have paid more than £300 to get to Brighton, where there are many English language schools that attract foreign students. The newspaper carries a warning from Detective Constable Martyn Paley, from Heathrow police, who said that several cases that had recently come to light were just “the tip of the iceberg”. He added: “Foreign language schools should be vigilant.”
