Heathrow to review security after runway protest
Security at Heathrow Airport is to be reviewed after protestors managed to storm one of the two runways early yesterday morning, causing flights to be suspended, delayed or diverted.
Thirteen people from the campaign group Plane Stupid, who are opposed to the airport’s expansion plan, have since been charged with aggravated trespass and entering a security restricted area of an aerodrome.
The group of men and women, who had chained themselves together on the runways, will appear in court on August 19.
The Metropolitan Police told the BBC that it was reviewing security at the UK’s premier hub. The action group had managed to cut through its perimeter fence in order to stage the runway lie-in.
