Hewitt says staff are crucial

Former Worldchoice boss Malcolm Hewitt warned agents to choose their staff carefully and opt for people with personality.

Hewitt, who has been working at Barclays Bank for the past eight years, said the biggest job retailers had was picking staff.

“The service business is all about talent and you need diamonds on your front line,” he said. “People buy holidays from people and so you need personalities to work for you.”

Hewitt re-iterated the comments of many conference speakers when he told agents that they must get behind selling the preferred suppliers.

“You can expect a lot from being in Triton, but you must give it back,” he said.

“I don’t understand people who don’t give it their full backing. You’re either in or you’re out, there is no half way house.”
