Hill in charge at Oman air
Former Sri Lankan Airlines chief Peter Hill is the new CEO of Oman Air.
Hill quit Sri Lankan late last year after the national carrier refused to bump passengers off a flight from London to make way for the president of Sri Lanka.
The president, accompanied by his wife and several aides, had been on a private visit to Britain to watch his son, Yoshitha, passing out from the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth.
The Sri Lankan government, which owns 51 per cent of the airline, cancelled Hill’s work permit.
He had been the carrier’s chief executive, based in Colombo, for eight years.
The move caused a rift between the Sri Lankan government and Emirates airline, which owns 43 percent of Sri Lankan Airlines. Emirates cancelled its management contract with SLA.
Commenting on his new appointment, Hill said Oman Air “has made significant progress during its short tenure as an airline”.
“In the coming weeks, I will spend the majority of my time listening to Oman Air management and staff in order to learn how we can further improve customer experiences and position the company as an even better place to work.â€
