Hilton to introduce Curio Brand in Dominican Republic

Hilton has announced the upcoming debut in Dominican Republic for its Curio Collection brand.

It signed the Hotel Santiago, Curio Collection by Hilton which will feature 177 guest rooms.

It is slated to open in late 2022, as part of Santiago Center, an upscale mixed-use leisure and shopping development.

The hotel site is owned by Green Earth Investments Ltd and will be LEED certified.

Amenities planned include a rooftop bar, signature restaurant, meeting space, and an outdoor pool.

"As we continue to expand our portfolio in the Caribbean, we are focusing on markets such as the Dominican Republic where tourism plays such an important role in the country’s economy," said Juan Corvinos, Hilton’s VP of development, Caribbean and Latin America.

The nation welcomed over 6.5 million visitors in 2018 however Dominican Republic hotels posted a an occupancy rate decline of 6% in 2019, due mainly to safety and security issues after a spate of deaths at resorts.

Hilton has a portfolio of more than 150 hotels and resorts open in the Caribbean and Latin America, with a development pipeline of more than 100.

This includes Curio Collection hotels in development in the Cayman Islands and Dominica.
