Hingerty steps down from ATEC

Matt Hingerty, managing director of the Australian Tourism Export Council for the past five-and-a half-years, will leave the organisation early next year.

“I strongly believe in renewal, and after six years I believe it is time for a change – for both me and for ATEC,” he said.

Hingerty said the achievement of which he was most proud was the fostering of the industry’s youth through Young ATEC.

“There is a massive generational change underway in the industry at the moment, with brilliant young people coming through the ranks bringing a renaissance of new ideas and new passion.

“At the same time they are respectful and hungry for the knowledge of our industry’s pioneers. I am absolutely certain that because of them, our industry, and ATEC will thrive in the future.”

Hingerty said he has no firm plans “other than engineering more time with my large and rapidly growing family”.

ATEC said that the position of managing director will be advertised in national newspapers in mid-August.
