Holidaymakers asked to ‘pack for a purpose’
The British Virgin Islands are inviting holidaymakers to bring items needed by its schools, community projects and charities in their luggage.
As part of a campaign called ‘Pack for a Purpose’, visitors can dedicate five pounds of their available baggage allowance for supplies.
After arriving at their hotel, they simply unpack as usual and the supplies are taken by the staff directly to the hotel’s chosen charity or project.
Scrub Island Resort and Guana Island are already online, while Cooper Island Beach Club, Peter Island Spa & Resort and Necker Island are due to join the initiative shortly.
Ginny Hawksley, manager UK and Europe for BVI Tourist Board, said it was delighted to be able to support such a "simple, yet greatly effective initiative".
