Holland America Line to sail Down Under
A range of Pacific rim and Asia itineraries have been unveiled by Holland America Line.
The cruise line is to visit Australia and New Zealand for the first time this winter by deploying the 1,258-passenger Statendam in the region from November to May, 2006.
The ship kicks off the voyages with a 35-day repositioning cruise from San Diego on November 17, calling at ports in Mexico, South America and the Pacific islands of Tahiti, Bora Bora and Tonga, arriving at the Bay of Islands in New Zealand on December 22. Cruise-only fares lead-in at £2,819 per person including taxes and fees.
The line has then scheduled 10 cruises featuring New Zealand and Australia. Eight ports of call are scheduled in New Zealand plus Tasmania, Melbourne and Sydney in Australia. Cruise-only fares start at £1,239 per person for 14-nights.
The ship departs on a 16-day Australia, Orient and China cruise from Sydney on March 4, 2006, sailing for 16 days to arrive in Hong Kong on March 20. Cruise-only prices start at £1,519.
Statendam then undertakes three cruises from Hong Kong to Osaka on March 20, April 3 and 17, 2006 including overnight stays in Shanghai, Xingang (Beijing), and Osaka. Passengers will also visit Dalian, China; Pusan, South Korea; Nagasaki, Japan and cruise on the Inland Sea of Japan. Cruise-only rates start at £1,409.
The vessel then makes a one-off 18-day voyage from Japan to Russia on May 1, 2006 for £1,529, crossing the International Date Line en route to the Aleutian Islands and Alaska. The itinerary includes an overnight in Tokyo, cruising of the Kuril Islands, a visit to Petropavlovsk, Kamchatha, Russia, and calls at Alaska’s Dutch Harbour and Kodiak Island.
The line’s marketing and sales senior vice-president Richard Meadows said: “Our new Pacific and Asia cruises arc the Pacific Rim from Peru to Russia featuring extended sailing on a series of Australia/New Zealand and China/Japan cruises. We are experts at exploring the world’s most exotic destinations in the timeless style afforded by the luxurious life aboard ship.”
