Hong Kong ferry collision: at least 36 confirmed dead
At least 36 people, including children, have died in a Hong Kong ferry collision.
Another 100 people were sent to five hospitals during the incident, nine of them have sustained serious injuries or are in critical condition, a statement said.
One ferry carrying 124 people almost capsized following the collision with a passenger ferry on the route between Yung Shue Wan and Central.
Survivors have described how the water level inside the stricken vessel rose quickly before the boat sank with its bow sticking vertically out of the water.
The ferry was carrying passengers to watch a fireworks display in Victoria Harbour when it collided with a Hong Kong and Kowloon ferry carrying 100 passengers.
The government is conducting a large-scale air and sea search for any other survivors.
