Fifteen airlines primarily operating regional routes -often low-cost carriers, will relocate from Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKG) Terminal 1 to Terminal 2. between May 27 and June 10.

The date of 27 May 2026 has been set when T2 passenger departure facilities begin operation.
T2 is accessible by different means of public transport. As in T1, T2 departures level is seamlessly connected to the Airport Express platform, with train doors opening on both sides to serve both terminal buildings. 29 bus routes will stop at the T2 departures level. T2 is also directly connected via a short covered walkway to Car Park 3, a new six-storey facility with over 1,000 parking spaces, which has already been opened to the public.
To ensure smooth relocation and operations at T2, Airport Authority Hong Kong has undertaken comprehensive preparations and will maintain close communication with the relevant airlines, business partners and stakeholders. Other passenger facilities of T2 will be commissioned in accordance with passenger traffic demand.
In its ultimate phase, the expansion is doubling the size of the existing building and increasing its passenger handling capacity to 50 million passengers per annum. Especially when the full airside concourse and dedicated gates are expected to open in 2027.
New features include a meet-and-greet area and baggage reclaim hall, expanded security and immigration facilities, and additional check-in counters. A new Automated People Mover Interchange Station (AIS) will connect T2 with the airport’s other concourses and transportation hubs. Hong Kong International Airport accommodated last year 61 million passengers, up 15% compared to 2024.
