Hong Kong theme parks to reopen

Hong Kong’s two major theme parks are gearing up to reopen.

Hong Kong’s secretary for commerce and economic development Edward Yau Tang-wah said Ocean Park will reopen this weekend after a four-month hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Rival Hong Kong Disneyland will open its doors ‘soon’ but no specific date has been set.

Ocean Park received a state cash injection of HK$5.4 billion to stave off bankruptcy and will reopen with 30% off normal entrance fees to lure guests back.

Children under 12 and senior citizens will get free entry until the end of July.

Special measures will be implemented at the parks including limited visitor numbers with online reservations only.

All visitors must wear face masks.

For the first two weeks capacity at Ocean Park will be limited to 25% and will then progressively increase to 50%.

"We want to reboot the economy in the second half of this year through new initiatives in tourism, external trade and trade insurance services," Yau said.

Yau said trade shows and exhibitions will be allowed to resume from July.
