Hotel-goers: expect more good news this year
Average prices for hotel rooms in the US and worldwide fell 14 percent last year and are coming back but hotel-goers can expect real bargains to continue this year.
“The promotions and great value look (to be) set to continue for some time yet. 2010 promises to be another great year for the traveler," said David Roche, president of Hotels.com.
“Whilst hotel prices continued to fall globally throughout 2009, towards the end of the year the rate of falls started to level off,” according to the Hotel Price Index.
For travelers paying in US dollars, Dubai became a more attractive destination in 2009 as hotel rates in the city fell 25 percent from their level the year before.
Said Roche:
"Step inside the time machine, turn the dial back to 2003, and compare hotel prices around the world then and now. What’s changed? Not much.”
The latest Hotel Price Index saw consumer prices back to levels not seen since 2003.
But there are signs of recovery both in the US and Europe, according to the last Hotel Price Index report.
