Hotel managers take the academic route
A new diploma has been created to train hotel managers.
The course is being launched this month at New College Nottingham in association with a number of hotel managers within the city. The Nottingham Hoteliers Association, whose members include Guy Hilton, manager of the Park Plaza, and Anthony Worrall, manager of the Hilton City Centre, hopes the course will promote the hospitality industry as a viable career option.
The BTEC National Diploma in Hospitality Management is a two-year course which will include lectures from local hoteliers and work experience. Students that pass their final year are guaranteed a job in a supervisory management role, at the participating hotel.
The course has 20 students this year, but will expand to 40 places by 2004.
